In February’s Home Farmer we have a kind of theme ‒ working together, and with kids ‒ with articles on the Women’s Institute and a new scheme for budding small food enterprises, with a plan to work together to take advantage of underused communal kitchens in schools, community centres and other similar places. It’s oft said that start-up costs in the food industry are really high because of environmental concerns, and such a plan may well help new businesses get off the ground. We also feature the Junior Pig Club, an initiative designed to draw more people into the pleasures of keeping pigs and the Eco-Schools initiative, which channels funding into schools with not only veg-growing activities, but also advice on both responsibility and sustainability ‒ and all alongside our usual growing, livestock, cooking and DIY projects, which this month also feature Dave Hamilton’s plans to upgrade his 1950s ex-council house to 21st century standards. It’s still the most feature-packed magazine in the sector, and we hope you enjoy it!
